Among other scaling frameworks, SAFe is the widely implemented frameworks for scaling agile practices across large organizations. SAFe is an enterprise level scaling framework developed by Scaled Agile, Inc. It collects the agile practices under an umbrella and provides a method for implementing them at scale. SAFe promotes a set of core values, including alignment, built-in quality, transparency, and program execution.

Components of SAFe

SAFe comprises several components and roles:

  1. Lean Portfolio Management: This component helps organizations align their portfolio strategy with execution by applying Lean and systems thinking principles.
  2. Agile Release Trains (ARTs) : ARTs are teams of Agile teams that plan, commit, and execute together, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  3. SAFe Principles: It defines a set of principles that guide decision-making and behavior at every level of the organization.
  4. Roles: SAFe introduces specific roles, such as Release Train Engineer (RTE), Product Owner, and Scrum Master, to facilitate coordination and collaboration.
  5. Ceremonies: SAFe prescribes ceremonies like PI Planning, inspect and adapt workshops, and system demos to synchronize work and enhance visibility.
